A tragic yet empowering story of Uruguayan poet Delmira Agustini, who defied the cultural standards of early 1900s Latin America. In a literary world dominated by men, Agustini brought female desire and sexuality to the forefront through innovative verses in her modernist works. She boldly pushed boundaries through her poetry, but her husband Enrique Job Reyes only perceived Delmira’s poetry as a hobby. That combined with a new love interest in painter Manuel Ugarte, Delmira would become the first woman in Uruguay to ask for and be granted a divorce. Tragically, her life was cut short by her own ex-husband when she was just 27 years old. Ochoa notes, “I wanted the audience to be looking at a poem in movement, as opposed to a documentary.”
